The fifth Ad Hoc Committee (AHC) negotiating session to elaborate on a UN cybercrime convention will convene at the United Nations in Vienna, Austria from April 11–21. This session will entail negotiations on the proposed chapters of the draft convention covering international cooperation, technical assistance, preventative measures, mechanism of implementation, final provisions, and the preamble. Ambassador (ret.) Deborah McCarthy, the U.S. Lead Negotiator for the AHC, will serve as the head of the U.S. delegation, including officials from the Department of State and Justice.
The United States continues to seek consensus toward the adoption of a narrowly focused criminal justice instrument that advances international cooperation to fight cybercrime while respecting human rights and supporting multi-stakeholder engagement.
